The forgotten Mitsubishi Evolution, the Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution
The V55W Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution are great looking little machines, a really interesting design. Mitsubishi produced 2500 of these in 1997 as a homologation special for entry into the Paris-Dakar rally. They are available in silver, white and red though I don’t think I have seen a red one in real life. We get these coming through the auctions quite often, at least one a month, although 95% would be automatic, the manuals are hard to find and command good money.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution comes with a 3500cc V6, 24 valve DOHC MIVEC engine that pumps out just under 280hp. The interior has two special edition Recaro seats and two little rear seats. Exterior goodies include big wide wheel arches and side steps as well as a very distinct Sonic the Hedgehog look rear roof spoiler. The bonnet is aluminum and has a prominent air intake. Overall, they are a tough looking little unit.
As mentioned, this one is a manual which is quite rare and sought after, although they did have reliability issues apparently. The exterior and interior of this Pajero Evolution was really good, very tidy inside and out. A spot of corrosion on the right front inner panel was identified as was some underside surface rust. Unfortunately, in reality the underside surface rust was grossly understated. It was quite bad, take a look.
